Over ten years Alessandro Sgherri and his family have perfected the recipe for genuine Tuscan hospitality in the tranquil setting of Agriturismo “ Il Selvino “. Situated between the medieval village of Terricciola and Lajatico, home to Andrea Bocelli, this former 18th century Country House has been sympathetically restored with all three stone buildings retaining the original Tuscan style, initially created by the noble Florentine Pitti family.

Just half an hour from Pisa airport and an hour from Florence, Il Selvino is easily accessible and an excellent base to explore the riches of Tuscany with the historical towns of Volterra, Siena and San Gimignano all within easy reach.

The accommodation consists of several generous, comfortable family apartments and a number of stylish double rooms each with a private bathroom and access to chilled storage. In addition, there is restaurant where guests may enjoy breakfast on the shaded terrace, and, on languid summer evenings, dine on authentic Tuscan food and wine, sourced largely from local farms and vineyards, and inspired by recipes from Alessandro’s mother, Giuseppina.

During the day guests have the benefit of a large swimming pool, surrounded by a sheltered sun-bathing area, set in the middle of mature gardens, from which you have a magnificent view over open fields where the vibrant colours are forever changing.

On the other side of the property, separated by the stream La Sterza, is a small lake, nestling against a back-drop of numerous trees, plants and grasses, presenting the opportunity for fishing, bird-watching or simply switching-off from the hustle and bustle of working life.

Alessandro has extensive knowledge of the locality and can suggest varied walks or places of interest to visit as well as arranging more active daily excursions such as wine-tasting, quad-biking, motorcycling and by request it is usually possible to participate in a cookery course at Il Selvino itself

Il Selvino now benefits from a large number of returning guests each spring and summer but the welcome is just as warm for the new visitors who choose to immerse themselves in this splendid Tuscan retreat.
